ACMS Band Mission Statement

In the Appling County Middle School Band program, our mission is to develop students into mature young adults through the avenue of music. Through music we will reinforce good behavior, discipline, responsibility, working well with others, teamwork, and humility. Our students will carry themselves with pride and honor, and we will always have respect for others.

Mr. Jim Perry, ACMS Band Director

Mr. Perry is in his 9th year of teaching at Appling County Middle School. This is his 12th year in public school education having served in Pierce and Coffee counties prior to coming to Appling. Mr. Perry graduated high school as an Honors student from Pierce County High School in Blackshear, GA and attended the University of Georgia for four years to earn his Bachelor's degree in Music Education. While at UGA in Athens he would study tuba under Mr. David Zerkel and performed in the UGA Symphonic Band, Wind Symphony, Wind Ensemble, and Symphony Orchestra. During this time Mr. Perry would also march for four years in the Redcoat Marching Band, serving two years as a Drum Major. Mr. Perry has recently graduated from Anderson University in South Carolina with a Master's Degree in Music Education in May of 2019.

Mr. Perry is married to Mrs. Ashley Griffis Perry, a teacher at Appling County Middle School. Together they attend First Baptist Church in Hazlehurst, GA where Mr. Perry serves as the Music Minister.
